Medieval History Seminar: Queen Melisende

Last year I am invited to medieval history seminar about master thesis with title “Queen Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1105-d.1160)”. Discuss occurred between all of the attendees around this title.

Most of the attendees saw that Melisende became queen from 1131 to 1161, so the title should be “Queen Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1131-d.1160)”, or “Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1105-d.1160)” because Melisende actually became queen in 1131. The others said that the main title is the suitable for this study and I am one of them. We saw the title should be “Queen Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1105-d.1160)” because Melisende title as queen since her birth and her father King Baldwin II of Jerusalem did all the necessary measures to ensure the throne to his daughter since her birth so that Melisende was a queen since 1105.

Finally, everyone agreed that the “Queen Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1131-d.1160)”, but I still said the right title is “Queen Melisende and her role in Jerusalem kingdom (b.1105-d.1160)”.
